My journey from reader to author has been gradual, but also happened rather quickly.

I decided to write seriously over three years ago, and the book sucked. Terribly. It wasn’t until I found other writers online that my work morphed into something less cringe-worthy.

It was my second manuscript: Samsara: Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16281181-samsara that earned me a publishing contract with Curiosity Quills. I won a contest in May 2012 and submitted my full. Within a few days I had a contract and happily accepted.

The Curiosity Quills family is a great bunch of people and on top of having my book published, I am also the Production Manager for all titles that CQ signs. It’s great fun interacting with authors, assigning cover art and release dates.

On top of Samsara being released with a small press, I wanted to sample the self-publishing market. I took the plunge and organised the cover, editing, advertising and a lot of other things involved. It was time consuming and I learned a lot along the way, but I would do it all over again as it’s so much fun. I love having the freedom to publish my work the way I want to. In fact, I made the decision to self-publish Ocean Kills only a few days before I was offered agent representation. It was a hard decision to say no to the agent, but I think I made the right choice. I love having Ocean Kills out there now, not waiting for a publishing deal to happen.

Jade Hart is a self-confessed book worm who is happiest glued to a lap-top with an eternal battery life, and typing up stories running rampant in her head.
